A pretty town with lots of charm and extremely interesting buildings

The lively city today has around 27.000 inhabitants and has a lot to offer. In contrast to other places in the Algarve, Lagos does not live exclusively from tourism. Fishing and trade are other important sources of income.

Take some time to get to know this extraordinary city. In the picturesque old town, pedestrian zones, shops and cafés await the visitor - a stroll is worth it! Stroll along the fortifications that span most of the city and discover the Pau da Bandeira fortress at the port. The Praça da República square is directly adjacent to the harbor promenade, with a larger than life statue of Henry the Navigator. The two-storey, arcade-lined building on the north side of the square used to be a slave market. Opposite is the Misericordia Church from the 2th century with its Renaissance main portal.

The city's jewel case, however, is the Santo Antonio Church, whose baroque interior attracts with gilded carvings. The regional museum, with sacred art and archaeological finds, is located in an adjoining building.

Under no circumstances should you miss a tour of the most famous rock formations in the Algarve at Ponta da Piedade. You can reach this 3 km south of Lagos. How about a trip to the grotto on this occasion? Your tour guide will be happy to advise you.
