Description
...to the fullest
The municipality of Silves is known as the heart of top quality lemon and orange production. The day therefore begins with a visit to a local orange plantation. Here you will not only learn more about the history and the family that has been running the plantation for over 70 years, but also harvest the sweet fruit yourself, which you will then taste as orange juice and jam.
The journey continues to Silves, the former capital of the Algarve. Here you will have free time to visit the Moorish Castle, one of the lasting monuments of the Moorish conquerors, and the Gothic Cathedral (entrance fees not included), or to stroll through the streets of the old town. From Silves you continue to the Monchique mountains where you will enjoy a typical lunch with regional specialities.
Well-fortified, it goes to Foia, the highest point in the Algarve, from where you have an incomparable view over the entire Algarve (weather permitting). The afternoon will be lively with a tasting of the Algarve's "fire water", the "Medronho", and a tasting of honey from local production.
This day is rounded off by a wine tasting in one of the most famous wineries in the Algarve, whose wines you will mainly find in the country's upscale restaurants.
