Description
Flavors of Gran Canaria
The focus of this excursion is the agricultural cultivation of the island, with its various plantations and local products.
Coming from the south, you first drive to the municipality of Telde. Here you will visit the “Centro Ecologico Cultural Los Olivos”, where you will learn everything you need to know about the cultivation and processing of olives.
After visiting the olive plantation and a small tasting (olives, oil, cheese, honey and a glass of wine), the tour continues towards Arucas.
Once in the village of Arucas, the program includes a visit to the finca “La Rekompensa”, where various banana crops are predominantly grown. Here you can see different banana trees and learn everything about growing this popular fruit. A small museum can also be visited there and you can get a sample of the bananas grown there, as well as rusks with banana jam, banana wine and liqueur and the famous “Papas Arrugadas” (Canarian potatoes).
Your journey continues into the Agaete Valley to visit the coffee plantation “La Laja”. Everything here revolves around growing coffee. Learn how different types of coffee are grown, harvested and roasted. The roasting in particular gives the Finca's coffee a special aromatic taste with hints of apple, papaya and cherry. Of course, a coffee tasting is also a must.
On the way back we go to Puerto de Las Nieves, a picturesque fishing village, where there is still some time for a short walk.
