Description
Sensational hike of superlatives over the roof of the island
This mountain tour connects the two highest peaks of Madeira and is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful, but also most demanding hikes. The crater rim of the Pico do Arieiro (1.818 m) will impress you just as much as the bizarre rocky landscape. And with the Pico Ruivo you reach the highest mountain of the island (1.861 m).
Incomparable impressions of the mountains of Madeira and, on a clear day, grandiose views on all sides of the island, up to the neighboring island of Porto Santo, will make your day something very special. Even if the sky is overcast or you are above the clouds, you will succumb to the fascination of the mountains.
Incidentally, the entire path has been completely expanded and secured over the past few years. Only your own fitness should be sufficient for the not exactly few meters in altitude (approx. 1.000 m, partly steep ascents and descents). Sure-footedness and a head for heights are prerequisites for this hike.
Difficulty high - 11 km - duration approx. 4,5 hours
