Description
An unforgettable masterpiece of nature!
By far the most famous levada hike with spectacular waterfalls, endless laurel trees, man-high heath forests and beautiful springs. Enjoy the unique nature around you as you follow your knowledgeable guide through the impressive landscape.
From the Paul da Serra plateau, which is a nature reserve, you descend along the green valley to the pretty guest house of Rabaçal. From here you follow the first levada to the imposing Risco waterfall, which falls from a height of around 100 m.
You descend the wide steps to the levada of the “25 springs” and follow it for a while until you reach a small lake at the foot of an overhanging cliff.
From all over the cliff, springs (25 in all if you count them) flow into a small lake, forming a wide curtain of water that feeds a deep green pool.
On the way back you will pass through an approx. 800 m long, well-developed levada tunnel, through which the water is channeled to the south of the island. This shortcut saves you the long climb back to the guest house and further up to the starting point of the hike.
Medium difficulty - 11 km - duration approx. 4 hours
