Description
A fascinating, unique excursion
Only on this great 2-day excursion can you admire the three major sights of Yucatan: Chichen Itza, Uxmal and of course Merida - the impressive colonial city with its magnificent Spanish architecture.
But not the filthy Mammon is the first priority of this excursion: The murals in the palace at the Zocalo and the visit to the cathedral will certainly remain unforgettable. You will also make a stopover in Itzamal.
Chichen Itza, perhaps the best-known of all Maya cities, was founded in the late 5th century and became the leading city in northern Yucatan by the 10th century. Most of the partially restored buildings that you can visit also date from this period. Let yourself be impressed by the temple city with the world-famous pyramid of the god Kukulkan and the monumental ball court.
A counterpoint to the mixed Mayatoltec architecture of Chichen Itza that is definitely worth seeing is Uxmal - here the Mayas led their culture to a height not attained at the time without any external threats. Particularly impressive is the rich facade decoration, including the mask of the rain god Chac and the pyramid of the fortune teller (only those with a head for heights should climb it).
