Description
A true journey through time through a grandiose environment
Embark on an exciting journey of discovery to the little-known Roman cultural sites of Zaghouan, Thuburbus Majus and Oudna, immerse yourself in the traditional hinterland with Berber culture and Tunisian specialties in Douar Laroussi.
The journey takes you to Zaghouan, a place on the 1.295m high mountain Djebel Zaghouan, fertile on the rugged north side and historically important as a water supply, at that time via canals and aqueducts, of the then world power Carthage - an impressive testimony of the master builders who were already brilliant at that time!
The main attraction is the Roman water temple of Zaghouan, built in honor of the nymph of the spring. According to legend, whoever drank from the spring returns to Tunisia.
The journey of discovery takes you further to the Roman ruins of Thuburbus Majus, impressive in the middle of the green, rural hinterland of Tunisia, with its impressive Capitol, the Roman paths and the remains of the thermal baths.
Another journey through time to the architectural art of the Romans is the archaeological site of Oudna in the middle of a hilly, fertile landscape, which has not yet been fully explored. Be inspired by the well-preserved amphitheater, partially carved into the mountain, at the time one of the largest of its kind with up to 16.000 seats.
Visit this impressive Roman site between Zaghouan and Carthage and capture your impressions with a photo stop.
After a traditional lunch and handicrafts, head to Hammamet, a small seaside resort surrounded by sandy beaches with a particularly poetic flair. The picturesque medina nestles against the bay of Hammamet, colorful fishing boats dance in the water and offer a wonderful scenery of a traditional fishing village that has developed into a fashionable seaside resort.
At the end of an eventful day, enjoy a walk in the small old town of Hammamet.
