The gateway to Fuerteventura

The former fishing village of Playa Blanca (German: white beach) is now a tourist center in the south of Lanzarote and belongs to the municipality of Yaiza. A beautiful promenade leads along the coast, from which you have a breathtaking view of the neighboring island of Fuerteventura with its gleaming white dunes. There are also numerous restaurants and bars as well as a number of shops. From the city's ferry port there are numerous daily ferry connections from the shipping companies Fred Olsen Express and Naviera Armas to Corralejo on the neighboring island of Fuerteventura. The crossing takes about half an hour.

If you follow the promenade further east, you will reach the new Marina Rubicon. More restaurants and leisure facilities can be found here.

To the northeast of the town are the Papagayo beaches: several bathing bays with crystal clear water and bright beaches. Three kilometers west of Playa Blanca you come to the 194 meter high red ash volcano Montaña Roja, which is also accessed by a hiking trail. We continue in this direction to the old fishing lighthouse Faro de Pechiguera, built in 1936. It marks the most south-westerly point of Lanzarote. The taller lighthouse that stands right next to it was built in 1986.
