The former fishing village

Puerto del Carmen belongs to the municipality of Tías and is the most important and largest tourist destination on the island of Lanzarote.

The beautifully developed waterfront, Avenida de las Playas, stretches through the town with a length of about eight kilometers.

Sun-seekers and families will find a place on the extensive beaches of Playa Grande and Playa de los Pocillos and in the direction of Arrecife on Playa Matagorda. Mainly Germans and British, followed by Scandinavians and Spaniards, make up the international audience.

The Avenida de las Playas is lined with restaurants, bars with live music, boutiques, supermarkets, the casino and much more. Tourist life is concentrated here. You can walk along the promenade past the airport to the capital Arrecife. In a southerly direction you reach the old town center (Punta Tinosa) in the port area at the end of the promenade. It gives an impression of the sleepy fishing village that Puerto del Carmen once was.

Around the harbor you will find restaurants (inexpensive to upscale), many Irish pubs with daily live music and on Sundays the market takes place here. The modern shopping center Biosfera above the harbor with shops, cafes and entertainment is also worth a visit.
