The regional drinks:

Madeira (wine)

Malvasia (malmsey): sweet, heavy, aromatic, light topaz color, most valuable Madeira wine
Boal: semi-sweet, dark topaz color, soft, delicious and aromatic, excellent both as an old and as a young wine, appreciated as or for dessert
Ink: semi-sweet, particularly popular as a young wine with a fine aroma
Serial: dry, strong and with the first sip a bit rough, amber-colored and very clear, the older the better, appreciated as an aperitif
Verdelho: dry, amber-colored, strong, aromatic

You can of course try the different types of wine in one of the many wine cellars and find your favorite Madeira. However, caution is advised. Madeira wine goes to your head quickly!

Table wine

Red and white wine: The best come from Portugal's largest wine-growing region, from Dão and from the vicinity of Lisbon. The Doro velho is of good quality, the Mattheus is available in white (branco) and red (tinto), the Grandama is a sweeter variety.
Rose wine: The best known is without a doubt the Mattheus, it is carbonated and refreshing, other good varieties are: Messias, Casal, Mendes, Quinta dos Reis.
Vinho Verde: Translated means green wine and comes from northern Portugal. A young wine that is served cold with fish and shellfish. Casal-Garçia, Lagosta, Gatão, and Aveleda are other good varieties.
Port wine: Seldom drunk here in Madeira, well-known varieties are Sandemann, Croft and Cockburn.
Aguardente: Liquor made from sugar cane with a very high alcohol content.
Poncha: Mixed drink made from aguardente, bee honey and lemon juice.
Liqueur: One of Madeira's specialties is the passion fruit liqueur, which is made from passion fruit; there is also cherry and banana liqueur as well as chestnut liqueur.
Beer: The Coral beer is produced here on the island and tastes very good.
