How to get from A to B.

In Madeira, you can also discover parts of the island by public transport. This works especially in and around the capital Funchal - the route network of the regular buses is quite good here. Mainly the orange-yellow buses run by the Horarios do Funchal transport company, departing mostly from Avenida do Mar. The city is divided into three zones:

Zone 1: Downtown area, beginning of the hotel zone to Lido
Zone 2: approx. to Hotel Regency Palace, Botanical Garden
Zone 3: about to Hotel Orca Praia, Monte

You can pay the bus driver directly (flat rate) or buy discounted return tickets at the green kiosks on Avenida do Mar.

Important bus routes:

Since the bus timetables change from time to time, we do not give you any specific departure times here. You can get the timetables at the tourist information office, sometimes also at your hotel. The individual bus routes run regularly on weekdays, the transport network is restricted on Sundays and public holidays and the buses run less frequently. There are no buses on December 25th.

You can of course also take a taxi. Please make sure that the taxi driver adjusts the taximeter inside Funchal. If you want to leave Funchal, ask in advance what the fare will be. And keep in mind that you have to pay a supplement at night.
