Above the bay of Kamari in the south of the island lies Kefalos. The elongated bay offers sandy beaches, some with water sports.

The approximately 2000 inhabitants of the region pride themselves on not being so dependent on tourism. The community still lives partly from agriculture and fishing. This is where the delicious thyme honey comes from. The townscape of Kefalos is characterized by small cafes and shops.

If you follow the asphalt road into the higher-lying town center, you have a breathtaking view of the bay with the offshore island of Kastri.

Remains from antiquity are omnipresent in Kefalos, for example you can see the Papavassilis windmill and the ruins of the Johanniterkastell.

The plateau leads over gravel roads to small bays and secluded chapels, which are particularly easy to explore by jeep or quad.
