Useful information about your holiday island

Banks
Banks are open on the island from Monday to Friday 09:00 - 14:00 h open. All banks are closed on Sundays and public holidays. You can use your EC card to withdraw cash from ATMs.

bus/cab
All larger towns can be reached by bus thanks to the regular bus network. The destination is written on the buses. The fare is to be paid directly to the driver. Bus timetables are available free of charge from the tourist information offices in almost all towns. Taxis stand at the side of the road or are flagged down. In many places there are taxi ranks with valid price tables, as there are no taximeters in Menorca, but fixed rates are charged.

Meal times
The applicable meal times for your hotel are posted at the hotel reception or in the dining room. As a rule: breakfast 08:00 - 10:00 h, lunch 13:00 - 15:00 h, dinner 19:00 – 21:30 h

Business hours
In general, the shops of 09:00 - 13:00 /14:00 h as well as from 16:00 /17:00 - 20:00 h open. At lunchtime all shops are closed except for the big department stores. In the holiday resorts, most shops are closed until May 21:00final match.:00 h open.

Post
Postcards or letters to other European countries cost around €0,60. Everything is sent by airmail. The post is about 3 days on the way. Postage stamps are called "sellos". You can find them at the post office, at the reception desk or in tobacco shops, called "tabacos" or "estancos". To avoid any misunderstandings: "cartas" are letters in Spanish, postcards are called "postales". Post offices are from 09:00 - 14:00 h open. Most hotel receptions also accept your postcards.

beach/sun
You can rent sun loungers and parasols on most beaches. Never take valuables to the beach! Beware of sunburn! For your own safety, please note the colored flags when bathing on our beaches!

Electricity
The voltage in the hotels is 220 volts. You do not need an adapter for the sockets. All plugs nowadays correspond to the EU standard.

To phone
Area code for Germany: 0049, then the area code without the 0 and then dial the connection. In the age of cell phones, making calls has become more convenient. Please note any roaming costs. You can also call abroad from the hotel, but this is more expensive than from a phone booth or from your own mobile phone.

Water
Tap water is suitable for brushing teeth, but not recommended as drinking water. Water is treated or supplied and is accordingly expensive. Please use the water sparingly! You can find sparkling water (con gas) and still water (sin gas) in all supermarkets.

Valuables
Cash, jewellery, cheques, flight tickets, etc. belong in the safe, as do ID cards, passports and other travel documents. You can rent the lockers at the hotel reception for a week's rent plus key deposit. The deposit will be returned to you when you hand over the keys. Beware of pickpockets and street vendors! In order to make any insurance claims, you need a confirmation of registration from the nearest police station.

newspapers
The major daily newspapers are available in the high season in the afternoon of the day of publication (hotel reception or kiosk), magazines about 2 to 3 days later.
