A place with a long history

Agaete has about 5.500 inhabitants and is located in the northwest of the island, at the foot of the Tamadaba pine forest and at the foothills of one of the most beautiful and fertile valleys. Due to the large water resources, the region is an important growing area for conventional and tropical fruits as well as coffee.

Agaete is also famous for its Fiesta de la Rama (the fertility festival), which is held annually in the first week of August. The inhabitants move from the mountains to the coast to hit the sea with branches! Even the natives asked the gods for rain.

The port, which is the mooring point for the ferry connections to Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, offers a wonderful view of the Fist of God, an impressive rock formation just a few meters from the beach.

Culinary delights are also provided, as Agaete is known for its very good fish restaurants.
