Caribbean-looking island in a nature reserve

Espalmador is a dreamy island: small and uninhabited, it is only a few meters from the northernmost end of Formentera - here the beaches are a tad whiter and the water is even clearer than on Formentera.

Another special feature is the sulphurous mud lagoon in the middle of the island, in which visitors have always taken mud baths. In the course of the growing environmental and nature protection regulations in the Balearic Islands, this mud lagoon was fenced in in spring 2008. Signs now point to the prohibition of entry that has been in effect since then.

There are only 150 m between Formentera and Espalmador. Since the passage to Formentera is not particularly deep, you can theoretically get to Espalmador on foot. For safety reasons, however, you should prefer to travel by boat. Espalmador is under nature protection. Signs indicate a variety of rules, but entry is not prohibited.
