Different quarters united in one city

The 654 BC The capital of the island, founded by the Carthaginians, has approx. 47.000 inhabitants. This seaside town lies almost vertically on a slope, the highest point of which is 99 m above sea level. The Puig de Molins (Mill Hill), a necropolis created by the Phoenicians, is located west of the old town. More than 4.000 Punic and Roman graves have been discovered here. The city is divided into different parts of the city. Dalt Vila is the old town of Ibiza. The upper part of the town is surrounded by a wall built in the 16th century - the original town center. Here you will find old noble houses, the town hall and the cathedral, which was rebuilt in the 17th century, as well as the Castillo. The archaeological museum and the museum of modern art are also located here.

La Marina, the area between the port and the city wall, is now a commercial center with many shops, boutiques, bars and a vegetable market. A cosmopolitan district with a special flair and an important meeting place for locals and visitors. Sa Peña is the former fishing district right on the pier. Many Ibizenkos still live here - mainly fishermen. On the other side of the port, Marina Botafoch presents itself with the new port facilities and the floating palaces of the jet set. There you will also find the famous casino and Ibiza's oldest and most famous discotheque, the Pacha.
