The island capital
The capital is the business center of the island with around 60.000 inhabitants. Worth seeing is the small museum of folk art and the Spanish fortress Bordji el Kebir near the small fishing port. The excursion boats to the Flamingo Island also leave here. It is also worth taking a stroll through the beautiful old town, through the weekly souks (markets) and the market square. Not far from the souks is the daily ceramic market.
