The varied landscape of Tunisia

Tunisia has an area of more than 164.000 square kilometers.

In the west the country rises to the higher mountain ranges of the Algerian Atlas, in the east it slopes down to the Mediterranean Sea. There are the Gulf of Tunis, the Gulf of Hammamet and the Gulf of Gabes.

The narrow foothills of a rugged mountain range runs along the north coast. From cork oaks and pine forests near Tabarka to the twin lakes near Bizerte, the landscape is as varied as in the foothills of the Alps.

This is followed by arable land, which ends in wheat fields to the east. It is followed by the Sahel and the coast of Sousse.
