country and people

The Republic of Tunisia has around 11 million inhabitants, 95% of whom are Arabs or Arabized Berbers. But there is also a minority of Europeans and a small Jewish community. The Berbers are the actual indigenous people of North Africa, they were here long before the Arabs, Europeans and Romans.

If you drive through the interior of the country or visit a traditional weekly market, the Berber women in particular stand out for their traditional clothing, as well as for their dyed hair and facial tattoos. When it comes to clothing, predominantly red and blue tones, and also burgundy red, are worn.

The Berber women are also hung with plenty of jewelry, as traditionally most of their property is in silver. They wear very beautiful necklaces, amulets, earrings, anklets or bracelets. The silver brooches, which are used to hold the outerwear together, are also very striking.
