Interesting facts about the religion of Muslims

The term Islam
In Arabic, Islam means "surrender to God and God's will". Almost all Tunisians are followers of Islam. Islam is a strictly monotheistic religion and the youngest of the major world religions. It originated in the 7th century when Mohamed, a merchant from Mecca, who was born around 570, was given divine revelations around the age of 40. Only after initial hesitation did he announce it to the people. The central message is the unity and the uniqueness of Allah.

Like the Bible in Christianity, the main source of faith for Muslims is the Koran. It consists of 115 sections, the suras, and contains the revelations of Allah to the Prophet. The most important requirement is to comply with the basic rules known as the five pillars.

The five pillars of Islam
Shahada: In this creed, the Muslims testify that there is no other god but Allah and that Mohamed is his messenger.
Salad: There is prayer five times a day. The muezzin calls at the prescribed hours so that no believer fails to pray.
Hem: In the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, all believers (except children, pregnant women, the elderly and the sick) must refrain from eating, drinking and smoking between sunrise and sunset. The month of fasting takes place in the 9th month of the lunar calendar.
Zakat: A kind of poor tax that should be given personally to someone in need by every sane Muslim of legal age.
Hajj: Once in a lifetime every Muslim has to make a pilgrimage to Mecca. For this pilgrimage he sometimes saves his whole life.
