Antigua is one of the oldest communities in Fuerteventura. Traditions and customs of the majoreros, the inhabitants of Fuerteventura, are still most strongly represented in the municipality and are visible to guests from all over the world. The largest town in the municipality is Caleta de Fuste, also known as El Castillo, with a population of 6.000. The Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Antigua from the 18th century, the magnificent mansions and the blue and white Art Nouveau villa from around 1900 are witnesses of the history of the place of the same name. The annual arts and crafts fair is a must for every artisan in the region; the products on display testify to the skills of the islanders.

The landscape is delightful with its endless plains, the rustic country houses and Gofio mills, which illustrate the omnipresence of the trade winds over the plain and the long tradition of grain cultivation. Also recommended is the Centro de Artesanía in Molino de Antigua, a handicraft center housed in a windmill. The main attractions are the Salinas del Carmen, where salt has been extracted for centuries using the tides and solar energy.
