Forces of nature

  • Earthquakes occur suddenly, violently and unexpectedly. There is no possibility of prediction and early warning!
  • If you are outdoors in the event of an earthquake, find a vacant space as soon as possible away from buildings, street lights and utility lines.
  • If you are in a building during the quake, seek shelter under a heavy, stable piece of furniture - e.g. a table. If there is no suitable piece of furniture available, move into a door frame. Hold on while the shock continues. Protect your head and face with your arms crossed.
  • A tsunami can be triggered in the event of tremors on a flat coast. Please run inland to a higher level as soon as possible. Do not leave your elevated refuge until the tsunami all-clear has been officially given.
