The municipality of La Oliva extends over the north of the island. The natural wonders there include the Isla de Lobos and the nature reserve Dunas de Corralejo with the incomparable, golden sand and the beautiful beaches with crystal clear water. The majestic volcanic cliffs of Bayuyo are the geological extension of the island and can be visited on foot. The beautiful village of El Cotillo is worth a visit with the Castillo de Roque fortified tower built in 1741 and the harbor.

La Oliva was the capital of Fuerteventura and the center of public and political life until 1860. The many stately houses still bear witness to this today, especially the Casa de los Coroneles, one of the most impressive architectural monuments on the island and an extraordinary example of colonial architecture. The Casa de los Coroneles was built in 1650 by the Cabrera Béthencourt family, whose coat of arms can be seen in the portico on the main facade.

The Casa de la Marquesa, as it was called by the locals, was the residence of the leaders of the Majorero militias. Not far from the Casa de los Coroneles is the restored Casa del Capellán. Its wooden door is framed by a stone frame with Christian symbols and Aztec ornaments. The historical and stately character of this place is still omnipresent today.
