Istmo de la Pared is the narrowest part of Fuerteventura with a width of five kilometers. In pre-Hispanic times, a huge wall is said to have separated the northern and southern Guanche Empire at this point. Although inconspicuous remains of the wall have been preserved, there is no evidence for this legend.

The La Pared holiday complex was founded in 1966 on the west coast and consists of various private bungalow complexes and single-family houses as well as an idiosyncratic, modern promenade in the center of the village. The magnificent avenue is divided into seven sections, which symbolize the seven Canary Islands. Folk festivals and markets are held here. To the north of La Pared there is a beautiful cliff bay. A little to the south is the bright sandy beach of Playa del Viejo Rey, where you can swim and linger when the sea is calm.
