The Costa Calma in the south of Fuerteventura was an absolute insider tip until the mid-1980s. In the early 1980s there was only one small hotel and restaurant here.

In the following years a tourist infrastructure developed. A medical center, a desalination plant for drinking water as well as shops and other restaurants were built. Furthermore, a palm grove about two kilometers long and 250 meters wide was created, which has since been considered the largest "forest" on the island.

Today there are around 12.000 tourist beds on the Costa Calma. German is now accepted and spoken by many as a colloquial language.

From the Costa Calma to the tip of the Jandía peninsula, the longest white sandy beach on the island, Playa de Sotavento, is around 30 kilometers and is ideal for sunbathing and beach walks.
