Lots of interesting facts

Banks: The opening hours are Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m. to 17 p.m. and Sat. 9 a.m. to 14 p.m. Credit cards, EC cards and the Postbank card (plus sign) are accepted at the ATMs. You can also receive cash payments against a credit card at the HSBC counter with a copy of your credit card and passport. Euro, USD and CHF are exchanged in exchange offices. Pesos can also be exchanged back into USD there.

Credit Line: In order to be able to spend a cashless holiday in the hotel, it is best to open a credit line by depositing a credit card deduction or depositing cash. During your stay, all you have to do is sign hotel bills and settle them at the end of your vacation. In some hotels this also applies to long-distance calls.

Hotel locker: Valuables belong in the safe (passport, flight tickets, jewelry, money, etc.). A safe is either in your room or available at reception. Some hotels charge a fee. If you have to pay a deposit for the safe key, you will get this back on the day of departure. In case of loss, however, a fee will be charged. We recommend that you make use of a hotel safe. As is customary internationally, hotels in Mexico are not liable for valuables that you keep in your room.

Post: Stamps and postcards are available from the souvenir shops. The postal route to Europe takes about 14 days. Mail can also be posted at any hotel. A correos (post office) is located in downtown Cancun and in Playa del Carmen at 2 Calle and 20th Ave.

Beach: All beaches are public. Beach towels are usually available free of charge. Watch out for dangerous currents. A corresponding flag on the beach indicates this. With black and red, bathing is prohibited because of the undercurrent with the suction effect. Yellow means caution. If it is green, there is no danger.

Tipping: Tips and service charges are almost never included in the price. 10-15% of the invoice amount is usual. The maid is charged around US$1 per day and the porters around US$1 per piece of luggage. Taxi drivers do not receive tips, but drivers and tour guides on excursions and round trips do.
