Safe on the go

Bus
There is a regular bus service between Playa del Carmen and Cancun. In Cancun itself, the public bus (Turicun and Autocar) runs between the Hotel Zone and the city center 2 hours a day every XNUMX minutes (distances are longer at night). The bus stops on a show of hands, and you buy your ticket from the driver. If possible, have small change ready (see also Cancun location description: Cancun – Playa bus connection). Intercity buses are rather infrequent and the departure times are not necessarily reliable. Minibuses (colectivo): So-called colectivos drive between the villages, which stop if necessary and let passengers get on and off. These minibuses are not particularly comfortable, but they run very frequently and allow you to travel to places where regular buses do not stop. Please be very careful when hopping on and off at the main road or trying to hail a bus! There are now a number of bus stops.

Taxi
Taxis run XNUMX/XNUMX and are usually in front of the hotels. You can often find price tables in the entrance hall or by the porters. The taxis are not metered and it is advisable to agree the price beforehand. For longer distances you can try to negotiate the price down a bit. There are different tariff zones, especially trips from the airport are very expensive. There is no public transport on Cozumel, but there are enough taxis available.

Ferry
There are regular ferry services from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel and from Cancun to Isla Mujeres. The ferry terminal in Playa del Carmen is located right in the town center and the ferries run every hour. There are 2 ferry companies that alternate, which is why we recommend buying tickets for a single trip only. The crossing to Isla Mujeres can be made from the hotel zone or from the port of Puerto Juarez. The ferries go there every 30 minutes.
