Worth seeing and visiting - not only because of the delicious sardines

Ferragudo - the idyllic little fishing village was able to keep its original character. Located at the mouth of the Rio Arade, directly opposite Portimão, the place with its picturesque alleys, steep steps, pretty white houses, the small village square and the fortification of São João from the 17th century is definitely worth a visit.

Especially in the high season Ferragudo has become a popular holiday destination for tourists and is therefore no longer as quiet as it once was, but is still worth a trip.

Portimão - Located at the mouth of the Rio Arde, Portimão, with around 45.000 inhabitants, is not a typical tourist center, but it is worth a visit in many ways. If you drive into the city over the old bridge, you will arrive directly at the fishing port. Even if you want to eat well and inexpensively in one of the numerous Algarvian restaurants, you should definitely try the sardines cooked on the charcoal grill. You will not regret it. And after the (extensive) lunch break, you can stroll through the little streets - the alleys lead directly from the fish restaurants at the harbor to the pedestrian zone of Portimão. In addition to the usual range of goods, there are a number of specialty shops for handicrafts and leather, but of course also a number of junk. Also of interest are the churches built in a wide variety of architectural styles and, just outside, the ruins of Abicada. One of the most beautiful and largest beaches in the Algarve, Praia da Rocha, is approx. 2 km away. With the (rental) car it is only a short detour, but one that you should not miss.
