In the town itself, a magical old town awaits you on both sides of the Rio Gilão with over 30 churches and a fortress towering high above the town. There are also many cultural sights to discover here. Stroll along the Travessa de Dona Brites promenade - here you can see a number of Gothic houses with interesting windows and portals. You will also find palm-lined parks on the riverside and the wide, secluded beaches of the Ilha de Tavira, which you can easily reach by boat from Tavira or with the tourist train from Santa Luzia.
