Wonderful Portuguese tiles

Directly on the EN 125, near the village of Almancil, is the most beautiful tile church in the Algarve, the São Lourenco de Matos church from 1730 - a wonderful example of the Baroque style in Portugal.

It is one of the best examples of elaborate tile decors, the so-called azulejos. These are the well-known, traditionally blue and white tiles that we know from Portugal. The tile pictures inside are among the most impressive examples of this art of faience and are definitely worth seeing.

Next door, founded in 1981, is the Centro Cultural, a cultural center.
