The climatic diversity of Tunisia

The climate of Tunisia, like the geography, is very diverse.

In the north the weather is typically Mediterranean, ie warm summers, mild winters and high rainfall. The southern mountain ranges and the east coast show a noticeably drier and more continental climate.

The weather in the central Tunisian steppe shows its capricious side. There, sometimes long dry and hot spells alternate with cold spells and heavy rains.

The area south of the salt lakes, on the other hand, is completely characterized by the desert climate. Cold winter nights contrast with summer temperatures with values above 50 ° C.

There is only rain there in the cold season. In summer, the hot, dry Scirocco wind from the Sahara or the mildly humid Chergui wind from the sea often blows.
